NOURISHMENT CLEANSE

MESSAGE FROM MARCY
“WHY” AND “HOW” OF LIVER CLEANSING

Many of us are living very full lives which allows little time for relaxation and self-care. According to author, Linda Page, in her book, Detoxification , “...today we know that [stress] affects every cell and tissue in our bodies, robs us of important vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, breaks down our major organs and lowers our immune response. Over time, unrelieved stress causes severe acid build-up that hinders our digestion of nutrients and stops up our elimination tracts. It interferes with our body’s cleansing processes, and actually contributes to toxic buildup.”

We also know that food plays an important role in the health of our body. Foods we eat daily--processed and refined foods, meat, sugar, white flour, dairy put a strain on our internal organs. Lack of adequate exercise and overeating places our bodies under more stress.

Author Halé Sofia Schatz, in her book--”If the Buddha Came to Dinner”--describes in Chapter 6 “The Cleanse: A Retreat Into Yourself”. “The twin goals of the cleanse are to eliminate excesses from the body(toxins, impacted plaque in the intestines, and bacteria)and increase the body’s natural ability to renew itself through the rejuvenation of cellular growth.”

Susan M. Lark, M.D. in her November 2006 newsletter says that around holiday time, when it is difficult to maintain healthy eating habits, she encourages her patients “to start a detoxification program that will gradually cleanse your body of its harmful accumulated toxins and keep you looking and feeling great throughout the holiday season.”

Dr. Lark is an advocate of semi-annual or even quarterly, intensive liver detox programs, but feels women should start with a gentler daily program.

“Detoxification is one of your liver’s most important vital functions.” According to Dr. Lark, benefits of a liver detoxification include the following:

  • cleanses and invigorates your cells and tissues
  • ramps up your ability to lose weight
  • promotes radiant skin and lustrous hair
  • protects your nervous system and brain from unmetabolized toxins
  • reduces risk of heart disease, PMS, fibroid tumors, endometriosis and breast cancer
  • enhances libido
  • combats fatigue
  • supports estrogen metabolism

DR. LARK’S SIX-STEP DETOXIFICATION PROGRAM:

  1. DRINK MORE WATER
AT LEAST 8 EIGHT OUNCE GLASSES OF PURIFIED MINERAL
WATER(SHE RECOMMENDS TRINITY NATURAL MINERAL SUPPLEMENT WATER)
  2. INCREASE YOUR INTAKE OF HEALTHY ORGANIC FOODS
EMPHASIZE RAW AND STEAMED FOODS, EATING MOSTLY VEGETARIAN; INCORPORATE ANIMAL BASED PROTEIN IF YOU WISH--EGGS WITHOUT OIL, FISH, POULTRY SUCH AS WILD ORGANIC SALMON OR FREE-RANGE CHICKEN
  3. AVOID FOODS THAT ADD TO YOUR LIVER’S STRESS LOAD
ALCOHOL, RED MEAT, FATTY FOODS AND REFINED SUGAR ARE ACIDIC IN NATURE AND CAN GENERATE TOXIC RESIDUES THAT YOUR LIVER MUST
NEUTRALIZE. AVOID CAFFEINE WHICH OVERSTIMULATES YOUR ADRENALS, INCREASING CORISOL WHICH LEADS TO INCREASED NERVOUS TENSION; AVOID WHEAT AND DAIRY WHICH CAN TRIGGER INFLAMMATORY REACTIONS
  4. DON’T EAT AFTER 7:OO PM;
NIGHTIME IS THE LIVER’S TIME TO REGENERATE; MAKE MID-DAY MEAL HEAVIER AND LAST MEAL LIGHTER
  5. TRY A LIGHT, MODIFIED ONE-DAY FAST EVERY 3 MONTHS
EAT 2 OR 3 LIGHT MEALS CONSISTING OF ORGANIC VEGETABLE JUICES(CELERY, CARROT, BEAT, BEET GREENS, PARSLEY, CUCUMBER, SPINACH, GARLIC; LOW-FAT AND LOW- SODIUM VEGETABLE BROTHS,HERBAL TEAS, UNCOOKED OR LIGHTLY STEAMED VEGETABLES AND COOKED STARCHES, GRAINS AND LEGUMES
  6. DETOXIFY YOUR EMOTIONS
    ACKNOWLEDGE ANY FEELINGS THAT ARISE

In addition, I strongly recommend daily exercise, hot towel scrub, and keeping a journal.
